The area at a glance
The whole area shares the same hot summers and heavy storm rains, and both are hard on asphalt. Heat softens the surface, and water that gets into cracks weakens the base underneath. Crack sealing and regular sealcoating are the two best things you can do to make a driveway or lot last.
Inside Fayetteville, the City handles driveway permits for city streets. Cumberland County Planning & Inspections serves the unincorporated county and several towns, including Spring Lake, Hope Mills, Wade, Eastover, Linden, and Stedman, while Spring Lake and Hope Mills also run their own inspections departments. Raeford is in Hoke County. Driveways that connect to state roads need an NCDOT driveway permit when they’re built or changed.
